MAYWOOD, IL – Charles Bareis, MD, who has served as interim president of MacNeal Hospital since April 2025, has officially been named president of MacNeal Hospital. Dr. Bareis will continue to serve as chief medical officer, a dual role that reflects his deep commitment to clinical excellence and strategic leadership.
Dr. Bareis has been a cornerstone of MacNeal Hospital since 2006, bringing more than two decades of experience in internal medicine and a steadfast dedication to our Mission. His leadership has shaped many of MacNeal’s most impactful initiatives. In 2024, he played a key role in supporting nursing leadership as they achieved Magnet Recognition with Distinction, a prestigious honor that reflects Loyola’s commitment to excellence in patient care.
Earlier in his tenure, Dr. Bareis helped establish MacNeal’s inpatient hospice unit, which opened in 2017 to provide compassionate end-of-life care. He also helped launch Sojourner House, a medical respite program that serves individuals experiencing homelessness—an initiative that exemplifies our dedication to caring for the most vulnerable members of our community.
“Dr. Bareis’s ability to lead with compassion, clarity and purpose has earned the respect of colleagues across disciplines,” said Shawn P. Vincent, president and CEO of Loyola Medicine. “His dual role will allow him to continue advancing clinical quality while guiding MacNeal Hospital through a period of transformation and growth.”
