MAYWOOD, IL – Becker's Hospital Review is proud to unveil the 2025 iteration of its "Hospitals and health systems with great oncology programs" list as well as “100 hospitals and health systems with great orthopedic programs”.

Their unwavering commitment to restoring mobility and improving quality of life for orthopedic patients sets a national benchmark for excellence.

Loyola Medicine’s department of orthopaedic surgery and rehabilitation is a nationally recognized leader in comprehensive musculoskeletal care, offering expertise in joint reconstruction, orthopaedic oncology, trauma, pediatrics, sports medicine and spine surgery. With 44 specialists across three hospitals, the department delivers innovative, patient-centered care supported by academic excellence and advanced research. 

In 2024, Loyola opened the Nancy W. Knowles Orthopaedic Institute, expanding access to state-of-the-art treatment, education and research, while launching the region’s first women’s sports medicine program dedicated to the unique needs of female athletes. The system earned multiple distinctions, including a spot on Newsweek‘s “America’s Best Orthopedic Hospitals” for 2024 and Blue Distinction Center+ designations for spine, hip and knee surgery. Loyola also pioneered the use of mixed reality technology in shoulder replacement surgery, enhancing precision and outcomes.

The organizations highlighted on the list are among the nation's leaders in oncology, offering state-of-the-art therapies, conducting pioneering research and participating in forward-thinking clinical trials.

Loyola Medicine’s Cardinal Bernardin Cancer Center is a nationally recognized leader in cancer care, innovation and research, bringing together more than 100 oncology specialists who provide comprehensive, multidisciplinary treatment for nearly every type of cancer. The center integrates diagnosis, treatment and support under one roof, offering advanced therapies such as intraoperative radiation, hyperthermia and leading-edge brachytherapy. 

Loyola was the first in Illinois to introduce several transformative technologies, including MRIdian Linac MRI-guided radiation therapy. Its adult bone marrow and stem cell program is accredited by the Foundation for Accreditation of Cellular Therapy. Whole-person care is emphasized through the Coleman Foundation Image Renewal Center and the Jim and Jane Miller Patient Navigation Program, both designed to support patients throughout their cancer journey. The system boasts continued clinical innovation that includes real-time adaptive radiation via the Varian Ethos system.
